 Date: 2 April --14 June, 1982

Location: Falkland Islands (Spanish:Islas Malvinas), southern Atlantic Ocean

Countries: United Kingdom vs. Argentina

Aircraft carriers: UK: 2 aircraft carriers (HMS Hermes and Invincible) vs Argentina: 1 ("25 of May")

Result: After 74 days of fighting, Argentina surrendered, enabling Britain to retain the islands in its possession. The Royal Navy's use of the two carriers enabled it to conduct amphibious assaults to retake the islands following an invasion by Argentine forces.
