At least 23 militants were killed when Pakistani army launched an airstrike in the country's northwestern tribal area of North Waziristan on Friday, the military said.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the mouthpiece of the Pakistani army, said in a statement that the troops backed by jet fighters pounded several hideouts of suspected militants in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, a restive tribal region along the Pak-Afghan border.
The killed militants included several important commanders, said the statement.
The ISPR, however, did not reveal the identities of the targeted and killed militants.
The troops also destroyed a huge underground ammunition dump and a tunnel system of the militants in the airstrikes, it said.
Friday's airstrike is a continuation of the Pakistani military' s armed offensive "Operation Zarb-e-Azb " in North Waziristan, which has so far killed over 1,900 militants, according to military sources.
The army has lost 188 personnel in the operation which was kicked off on June 15 this year, said the sources.
