After initially denying it was Jackson's jet, Jackson's spokesperson Matt Dravitzki later confirmed it was his aircraft that had been chartered to Australian authorities, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The spokesperson said the director has always tried to shy away from receiving publicity for something like this and declined to say what compensation he was receiving for the jet's use

Radio New Zealand said Jackson had personally approved the use of his Gulfstream G650 in the search.

Gulfstream, the company which operated the jet had accepted a charter offer, the report said.

The jet can carry eight passengers and a crew of four on nonstop legs more than 12,900 kilometers, according to Gulfstream.
