China donates mobility aids to Syrian hospital

China has donated mobility aids to a Syrian hospital in Damascus, as part of its ongoing humanitarian assistance to the war-torn country, the Chinese embassy said Wednesday.
The recent donation included 100 wheelchairs, 100 walkers and 200 pairs of crutches delivered to the Assad University Hospital, one of the biggest government-run medical facilities in Damascus, the embassy said.
It is the latest in a series of medical aid supplies to Syria provided by China, which last month funded the renovation of the emergency department of the al-Muwasat University Hospital in Damascus.
During the delivery ceremony held on Wednesday, China's Ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin underlined the Chinese government's commitment to delivering more aid to the Syrian people and government in 2018.
"We want this aid to mitigate the suffering of the Syrian people, and we will continue to implement projects to deliver humanitarian and economic aid this year to the Syrian people," the Chinese envoy said.
Jaber Ibrahim, head of the Assad University Hospital, said he was appreciative of the help offered by China.
"In the Assad University Hospital, we are satisfied with all the help we get from friendly countries," he said.
In January 2017, the Chinese government donated US$1 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to fund a humanitarian project addressing the health issue of Syrians.
The project included providing health care services for Syrian refugees and improving primary health care and outreaching health services in Syria.
