Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will leave Japan on Wednesday for the United States to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump before moving on to Canada to attend a Group of Seven (G7) summit.

Abe, during his six-day trip, is expected to reaffirm Japan's close cooperation with the U.S. during his talks with Trump at the White House on Thursday, government officials here said.

The two sides will discuss policies regarding the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) ahead of a summit between Trump and DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un, slated to be held on June 12 in Singapore.

Abe will, later on Thursday, attend a two-day G7 summit which will start on Friday in Charlevoix in Canada's Quebec Province.
