A 5.9-magnitude aftershock struck Lombok island in central Indonesia on Thursday four days after a powerful 7.0-magnitude quake jolted the tourist island, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

Initially, the agency said the scale of the quake was gauged at 6.2 magnitude, but later revised it downward to 5.9 magnitude, according to Rudi Teguh, an official of the agency.

The aftershock hit at 12:25 p.m. local time (0525 GMT) with the epicenter 6 km northwest of North Lombok district and a depth of 12 km, the official said.

"This quake did not trigger tsunami, so accordingly we did not issue a warning for that," he told Xinhua over phone.

A total of 367 aftershocks have rocked Lombok island since the 7.0-magnitude temblor rattled the island on Sunday, briefly triggering minor tsunamis, Teguh noted.

The 5.9-magnitude aftershock jolted Lombok island and nearby Bali resort island to the west.

Indonesia is prone to quakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-affected zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
