Strong quake strikes off Sumba Island of Indonesia, no tsunami alert issued

An earthquake of 6.0-magnitude rocked Sumba Island of central Indonesia on Tuesday, no tsunami alert was issued and no report of damages has so far been made, officials said.
The meteorology and geophysics agency earlier said the quake was 6.3-magnitude and later revised the level, Budiman, an official with the agency, said.
The quake jolted at 07:16 a.m. Jakarta time (00:16 GMT) with the epicenter at 66 km southwest Sumba Timur of East Nusa Tenggara province and a depth of 10 km under the seabed, the official told Xinhua via phone.
About 17 minutes earlier, a revised 5.9-magnitude shock rattled the province, it was previously gauged at 6.0-magnitude, the official said.
Spokesman of the national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua in a text message that the quake triggered panic but did not result in damages.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-stricken areas called the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it prone to earthquakes.
