New chairman of Sudan's military council takes constitutional oath

Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan Abdel-Rahman on Friday took the constitutional oath as chairman of Sudan's transitional military council, official SUNA news agency reported.

Abdel-Rahman succeeded Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf who on earlier Friday announced his resignation.

On Thursday, Sudan's Defense Minister Ibn Auf announced the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir and his government.

He assumed the chairmanship of the transitional military council to rule the country during a period of two years.
