Death toll of vessel capsizal rises to 11 in Myanmar

The death toll in a vessel capsizal which took place in northwestern Myanmar on Monday has increased to 11, a local official told Xinhua Tuesday.

With over 40 people aboard, a motorized vessel capsized on Monday morning in the middle of the river while travelling to take part in celebrations of Chindwin Thingyan Festival which was being held in Monywa township.

The vessel was dangerously overweight when it sank, the regional police said. Of 36 people who were rescued after the capsizal, two people died at the hospital later on Monday.

A total of nine dead bodies were found in water late Monday and on Tuesday, U De Zin, an official from Monywa District Fire Service Department, told Xinhua.

The search and rescue operation for the missing ones including the vessel driver are being carried out by the authorities.
