Bangladesh's police said the bodies of six men were found on a Bay of Bengal beach in the country's southeastern Cox's Bazar district bordering Myanmar.

"We've recovered six bodies from Sughanda point of Cox's Bazar sea beach on Wednesday morning," said Md Khairuzzaman, a senior police official in Cox's Bazaar district, some 292 km southeast of capital Dhaka.

Law enforcers suspect that all the deceased were fishermen and they drowned after their fishing boat encountered inclement weather in the Bay of Bengal.

Two more people were rescued in an unconscious state and had been rushed to a hospital for treatment, said the police official.

He said autopsies would be performed to determine the cause of death. Identities of the bodies were not known immediately.
