Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan met with India's Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Monday.

Wang said China and India are both at an important stage of national development and rejuvenation. Under the guidance of their leaders, the two countries have enjoyed further development in their cooperation across the board and sound momentum behind their bilateral relations.

He said people-to-people exchange between the two countries is wide-ranging and rich in content, which is beneficial not only to the present but also to the future.

People-to-people exchange is an important aspect of exchanges between China and India, said Wang, calling on the two countries to give full play to the China-India high-level people-to-people exchanges mechanism, and lay a more solid public opinion foundation for the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.

Jaishankar said India and China play unique and important roles in regional and international politics, and the two countries have always respected and accommodated each other's major concerns.

He said India is willing to make persistent efforts on the basis of consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and further strengthen communication, properly handle differences and enhance pragmatic cooperation with China in all fields.
