The Nepalese National Day reception was held by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing on Thursday.

The event began with the national anthems of Nepal and China.

Leela Mani Paudyal, ambassador of Nepal to China, delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony. He said that Nepal observed its National Day on different dates before finally designating the Constitution Day, on Sept. 20, as the National Day of Nepal and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy, freedom, and equal rights in Nepal.

Paudyal noted that Nepal regarded China as an all-weather friend, trusted neighbor, and a major development partner, and he recounted recent communication between leaders of the two countries.

The bilateral relations between the two countries have been maintained at a good momentum with expanding opening-up to each other and scaling up cooperation. Paudyal said, "Over the past year, China remained the top source country for foreign direct investment, and the second largest source country of tourists for Nepal."

As a country with abundant tourism resources, Nepal has attracted many tourists from China. "The flow of Chinese tourists to Nepal grew by 47% in 2018 compared to 2017," the ambassador said.

Paudyal expressed his appreciation for China's efforts on deepening bilateral relations, "China also scaled up the volume of grant assistance under bilateral cooperation. Several thousand students from Nepal are currently studying in China, many of them under Chinese scholarships."

The ceremony was also attended by Luo Zhaohui, vice minister of foreign affairs, and Wei Dong, dean of National Defense Engineering College of Academy of Military Science.
