A bomb blast triggered by an improvised explosive device hit the office of a political leader in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Saturday, leaving at least two people dead and 10 others injured, an official said.

Shahjahan Achakzai, a government official from Pakistan's Interior Ministry, told Xinhua that the explosion has left Maulana Hanif, a leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, critically injured that took place at the busy market area located at Taj Road in Chaman, a district in Balochistan near the country's border with Afghanistan.

The blast was so loud that it shattered the windowpanes of nearby buildings and was heard in far off areas.

The official said that an explosive device was planted in a motorcycle and it was detonated with a remote-controlled device, adding that the death toll might further rise as several of the injured are in critical condition.

Rescue teams, police and security forces had reached the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospital. The police have cordoned off the area where investigators were collecting evidence.

No group has claimed the attack yet.
