The 19th China-Myanmar Paukphaw (fraternal) Friendship Carnival opened Thursday in the border city of Ruili, southwest China's Yunnan province.

At the opening ceremony, citizens and visitors were treated to a carnival parade with the theme of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the friendship between China and Myanmar.

During this year's carnival, there will be a series of activities including a China-Myanmar sepak takraw (kick volleyball) competition, a featured commodities fair and a food festival.

Since 2000, the China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship Carnival has promoted cultural and trade exchanges between the two countries.
