More than 450 people were arrested in the first 24 hours of the mass demonstration as Extinction Rebellion protesters were causing a second day of disruption in central London on Tuesday.

Environmental protesters blockaded key sites in central London, including Westminster Bridge, Trafalgar Square and the roads outside Downing Street with some gluing and chaining themselves to roads and vehicles.

Police officers ordered activists to stop occupying central London, and they used scissors to cut environmental protesters out of tents in a bid to clear central London roads.

The activists, who form part of a movement taking action in cities across the world, took to the streets in the British capital on Monday morning, kicking off two weeks of demonstrations demanding stronger action on climate change.

On Monday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson labelled the group of environmental protesters "uncooperative crusties", and urged London police to use the "full force of the law" against them.
