Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate met with Pakistani President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Tuesday.

The royal couple arrived in Pakistan on a five-day visit Monday night. And this is their first official visit to the country. The British High Commission said they began their tour of Pakistan with a "day of education, conservation and official engagements" in Islamabad.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held official meetings with the president and the prime minister of Pakistan.

The state radio reported that the Duke of Cambridge thanked the president of Pakistan for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his entourage.

They appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the government of Pakistan to combat climate change and to alleviate poverty, Radio Pakistan reported.

The Duke and Duchess will visit Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, and northern areas of Pakistan.

The British High Commission said the royal couple program includes visiting projects which empower young people, and communities that are rapidly responding and adapting to the effects of climate change.

During the visit, they will meet a wide variety of people, including children and young people, leaders from government, faiths leaders, business and the charity sector, inspiring conservationists and well-known cultural figures and sporting stars.
