AVIC international, a Chinese company has sunk another borehole in Chongwe district of Zambia, a government official has disclosed.

The executive mayor of Chongwe, Geoffrey Chumbwe described the gesture as gratifying. He made the observation in an interview at his office on Thursday.

The government official disclosed that, the Chinese firm had earlier sunk two boreholes in two villages in the rural district. He reveled that, after a community request for an extra borehole, his office approached the Chinese firm who willingly came on board and sunk another borehole in Kampekete village.

He observed that, the extra borehole would help to increase access to clean and safe water in the rural community.

According to him, the sinking of another borehole was a monumental achievement as the village was in desperate need of more water points considering the overwhelming number of households. He said, the extra borehole would help to increase the lifespan of the boreholes as the residents would have two points to draw water from, by not overusing one borehole.

The government official thanked the Chinese company for going am extra mile in responding to the needs of the community.

He therefore urged the community to guard the water facilities jealously as they were intended to better their lives.

Meanwhile, Manyika ward councillor, Runner Shiyala said that, he was more than happy to see the company respond to the people's request. He said, the people of Kampekete would forever treasure the gift and hoped that, this would just be the beginning of better things to come.

He further urged other business houses to emulate AVIC international and participate in public welfare activities.
