Russian police have shut down two major laboratories producing synthetic drugs, one in the Moscow region and the other in the far eastern Khabarovsk region, the Russian Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said in a statement that one laboratory was located in the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region in a former farm occupying a plot of land with a total area of about four hectares.

The laboratory had expensive equipment, which could produce up to 1.5 tons of synthetic drugs per month, it said.

During a police raid, more than 100 kg of narcotic drugs in crystallized form, 1.5 tons in liquid state, 4 tons of chemicals, over 600 kg of precursors, seven chemical reactors, and various laboratory equipment were seized, the statement said.

The police detained three citizens of Ukraine, suspected of acting as chemical technologists and couriers. A few hours later, it identified and detained the suspected organizer.

The group organized sales of drugs through an online store in the depths of the Internet. Members of the group also offered precursors and so-called constructors for the production of drugs in smaller laboratories.

The ministry said in a separate statement that police had also shut down another major laboratory in the Khabarovsk region, seizing around 25 kg of synthetic drugs and 4 tons of components used to make them.
