Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Tuesday met in Nur-Sultan with senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi, with both sides reaffirming commitments to strengthening ties and promoting Belt and Road construction.

During the meeting, Yang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said the China-Kazakhstan relations have set a fine example of good neighbourliness and win-win cooperation.

Yang recalled that last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Tokayev agreed to forge a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, endowing new historic positioning and meaning of the bilateral relationship.

China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to fully implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state, consolidate political mutual trust, boost mutual support and strategic coordination, Yang said.

He added that China also stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Kazakhstan within the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, so as to promote the two countries' security cooperation to achieve deeper and more practical significance and progress and jointly address regional security risks and challenges.

The two countries should continually deepen practical cooperation, push forward high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to yield more results, prioritize development of production capacity cooperation, trade, agriculture and infrastructure, foster new growth points such as finance, high-tech and digital economy, and better amplify the effects of win-win cooperation, so that the China-Kazakhstan relations will continue to score more remarkable achievements, Yang said.

Yang thanks Kazakhstan for providing support and assistance in China's fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic. As the world is a community with a shared future, China is ready to strengthen communication with the World Health Organization, enhance cooperation in epidemic prevention and control with all countries, and jointly address the global public health risks.

For his part, Tokayev said he firmly believes that China will surely win a victory over the epidemic. Kazakhstan strives to develop long-term friendship and cooperation with China, unswervingly promote the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership, and closely synergize the Bright Path new economic policy and the Belt and Road Initiative to deliver more tangible results and further benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Yang also met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi on Tuesday.
