Mohammed Abu namous, a Palestinian doctorate candidate in a university of Wuhan, Hubei province, and a member of Fatah, the ruling party of his country, became the first from there to be infected by the novel coronavirus in January.

His infection was confirmed while he was travelling in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. Thankfully, he also became the first Palestinian in the world to recover after treatment.

His experience has been widely reported by local media, and has grabbed tremendous attention on social media in Palestine, and even in the whole Middle East.

He told the media he felt desperate at first when he was hospitalized, as he heard there was no available treatment for the disease.

And his low mood had lasted until the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (IDCPC) extended a helping hand; staff members from the department not only cared about his treatment, but also kept him informed of the latest developments in the overall situation.

When Mohammed saw the infections were being brought under control outside Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, and particularly the mortality rate dropped continuously while more and more infected people recovered after treatment, he gradually became relieved.

He deeply appreciated the medical professionals and friends of the CPC whose treatment and comforts are proved indispensable for his recovery.

In his interviews with Middle East media, Mohammed showed his confidence in China’s institutional advantages and the unity of the whole nation under the CPC leadership.

He said if the epidemic had first appeared in any other country but not China, it would have undoubtedly caused a pandemic.

After learning about his experience in China, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called Mohammed to know about his story in detail, and spoke highly of the efforts China has made to help.

Some senior members of the Fatah sent letters to the IDCPC, praising China for putting the people’s health in the first place and for effectively containing the spread of the epidemic.

They noted China had released the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus in a timely manner and shared its experience in epidemic control with the world, showing humanitarianism and internationalism. They all felt confident that the Chinese people would emerge stronger from the difficulty.

Mohammed regards Wuhan as his second home town, saying that it is the Chinese people who have saved his life.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed," he said, vowing to continue his study in Wuhan and make further contributions to relations between China and Palestine in the future.
