A revised 6.0 magnitude quake rocked North Sulawesi province in central Indonesia on Tuesday, but did not trigger a tsunami alert, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

The agency initially reported the quake was measured at 6.3 magnitude before revising it, Prio Budi, an official in charge of the agency told Xinhua over phone.

The quake struck at 2:43 p.m. Jakarta time (0743 GMT) with the epicenter at 42 km southwest Bolaang Uki sub-district of Bolaang Mongondow district and the depth at 94 km under sea bed, he said.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in the Bolaang Uki sub-district, Bone Bolango district of nearby Gorontalo province and Luwuk, the district capital of Banggai district in nearby Central Sulawesi province, he said.

The jolt with the intensity of III to IV MMI was felt at Gorontalo province, Amapan town of Central Sulawesi province and Tuyutan subdistrict of Bolaang Mongondow district in North Sulawesi province, according to Budi.

Indonesia has been frequently stricken by earthquakes as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
