Global COVID-19 cases surpass 40M: WHO

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 40 million, the latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) showed.

WHO Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Dashboard showed that globally, as of 11:47 a.m. CEST Tuesday, 40,114,293 confirmed cases, including 1,114,692 deaths, had been reported to WHO.

It's only some one month after WHO reported 30 million COVID-19 cases worldwide on Sept. 18.

According to the latest WHO figures, the U.S. remained the top in both confirmed cases and deaths, with the numbers standing at 8,065,615 and 218,131, respectively.

It was followed by India and Brazil in terms of total infections. India had reported 7,597,063 confirmed cases and 115,197 deaths, and Brazil, 5,235,344 cases and 153,905 deaths.

Also among the severely-affected countries were Russia with 1,415,316 cases, Argentina with 989,680 cases, Colombia with 959,572 cases, Spain with 936,560 cases, Peru with 868,675 cases, France with 867,978 cases, and Mexico with 851,227 cases.
