Presidential and parliamentary elections kick off in Seychelles

Around 70,000 voters was expected to cast their ballots in presidential and parliamentary elections from on Oct. 22-24 in Seychelles, a archipelago country in the Indian Ocean.

Candidate from United Seychelles (US), the incumbent President Danny Faure, will facing the challenge from his two rivals, Wavel Ramkalawan from Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (Seychelles Democratic Union, LDS), and Alain St Ange from the One Seychelles Party.

According to the Constitution of Seychelles, the president is elected by absolute majority, in two rounds if needed, to serve a 5-year term.

As for the National Assembly, 25 members are elected by simple majority vote and nine other members are elected by proportional representation to serve 5-year terms.

Most of voters from the three majors islands of Seychelles, Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue will cast their ballot on Saturday, the initial result will be published in the same day.
