The second of four Type-054A/P Class Frigates was launched for Pakistan Navy on Friday at Hudong Zhonghua (HZ) Shipyard in Shanghai. The event came as the two countries completed celebrating 70 years of diplomatic ties built upon historic bonds of friendship and mutual trust.

Back in 2017, the Pakistan Navy placed the order for four warships. The first was launched last August, and the remaining two are expected to be delivered within 2021.

According to the Pakistan Navy, Type-054A/P Frigates will be one of the most technologically advanced surface platforms of its fleet. They are fitted with latest surface, subsurface and anti-aircraft weapon systems. They will also be fitted with a range of electronic warfare, air and surface surveillance, and acoustic sensors integrated through a state-of-the-art Combat Management System.

The launch ceremony was attended by Commodore Azfar Humayun SI(M), Pakistan Navy Chief Naval Overseer (CNO), as well as representatives of M/s China Shipbuilding Trading Company (CSTC) and HZ Shipyard.

The commodore spoke highly of the timely achievement of this important milestone, adding that the induction of the warships would significantly enhance Pakistan's maritime defense and deterrence capabilities.

He also acknowledged the commitment and hard work of M/s CSTC and HZ Shipyard in keeping this important program on track in difficult times of the ongoing global pandemic.
