China donated a batch of COVID-19 vaccines on Monday to Pakistan's armed forces, according to a statement by Pakistan's director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Pakistan's military is the first foreign military to receive vaccine assistance from China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), the statement said.

Upholding the traditional spirit of "nation comes first, always and every time," the Pakistan Armed Forces said that it has decided to contribute to the national vaccine drive by donating the vaccines to frontline healthcare workers across Pakistan who are the "real heroes fighting the pandemic and saving precious lives."

"Pakistan's Armed forces extend their deepest gratitude to the PLA and People's Republic of China for this magnanimous donation during testing times," the statement read.

Last week, the first batch of 500,000 China-assisted COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Pakistan, making Pakistan the first country to receive Chinese government-donated COVID-19 vaccines.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press briefing that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners.

Apart from Pakistan, China is also providing vaccine aid to Brunei, Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Palestine, Belarus, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, altogether 13 developing countries.

China hopes the international community will work together to promote the equitable allocation and use of vaccines globally to make sure developing countries have access to and can afford them, Wang said.
