Africa's confirmed COVID-19 cases near 3.81M: Africa CDC

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent has reached 3,809,172 as of Saturday morning, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

According to the continental disease control and prevention agency's Africa COVID-19 dashboard, the number of COVID-19-inflicted deaths in Africa reached 100,674.

A total of 3,359,930 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent so far, the agency said.

South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia are the worst COVID-19 affected countries in terms of the number of confirmed cases, according to the agency.

The Southern Africa region is the area most affected by COVID-19 in the continent in terms of the number of confirmed cases, followed by the Northern Africa region, said the Africa CDC.

South Africa has reported the highest COVID-19-inflicted deaths in Africa, at 48,859, according to the Africa CDC.

North African countries of Egypt and Morocco reported the second and third highest number of COVID-19-related deaths, at 10,250 and 8,540, respectively.
