A literary forum was held on Tuesday to promote cultural exchange between China and Pakistan and mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The event was jointly organized by the China Writers Association (CWA) and the Pakistan Academy of Letters, and supported by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Pakistani Embassy in China.
The forum provided an opportunity for renowned writers, scholars, and diplomats from the two countries to share their perspectives and develop proposals to advance collaboration and exchange around literature.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, literary exchanges between China and Pakistan have played a special role in promoting bilateral ties, Tie Ning, head of the CWA, said in her speech at the forum.
According to Tie, the CWA has maintained a long-term relationship with the Pakistan Academy of Letters, with writers from the two sides having frequent contact with each other.
"Through visits to the historical and cultural sites of the two countries and face-to-face communication around literature, the writers from both sides have personally learned about the time-honored civilization of the two countries and the hospitality of the two peoples," Tie said.
"The CWA hopes to work hand in hand with the Pakistan Academy of Letters to strengthen cooperation on bilateral and multilateral literary exchanges," she added.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on literary exchange and cooperation between the two countries was signed at the forum.
Ahmed Farooq, Pakistan's minister to China and deputy chief of the Pakistani Embassy in China, underscored the need to forge strong links between the intellectuals of Pakistan and China.
"The two governments are intensifying their efforts to expand our bilateral cultural exchanges and bring the people of our countries together," Farooq said.
"We need to maintain this healthy momentum and encourage more exchanges between our students, authors, intellectuals, and academics," he added.
