A pre-conference to promote the upcoming Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and Summit, the largest international conference and exhibition in Central Europe dedicated to sustainability, was held in Beijing on Oct. 15.
The Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and Summit is scheduled to take place between Nov. 29 and Dec. 5 in Budapest, Hungary. The one-week event will discuss the future of the world and sustainability and offer a wide range of innovative and pragmatic solutions.
"The event aims to raise awareness about adverse environmental, social, and economic practices among the general public and to show that these negative changes, which overshadow the future of humankind, are still reversible," said Oliver Joubert, deputy head of mission of the Embassy of Hungary in Beijing, in his opening remarks during the pre-conference.
Balazs Heincz, director general of the Department for Water Diplomacy and the Danube Region Strategy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, introduced the mission and content of the event via video link from Budapest.
He said the event included four sustainability-related parts, namely: the summit, the sustainability expo, interactive public programs about sustainability, and a youth program about sustainability.
Mate Pesti, Hungarian ambassador to China, said in an interview with the media that the main objective of the Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and Summit is "offering widely applicable, innovative, and efficient solutions to the challenges of sustainability, to be used by all stakeholders of the planet."
He added that allowing heads of states and governments, decision-makers, experts, and company representatives to share their insights on these matters along with the tens of thousands of expected visitors, makes Planet Budapest 2021 the largest international event in Central Europe dedicated to sustainability.
During the pre-conference, experts and representatives of leading Chinese companies working on different aspects of sustainability gave keynote speeches on various issues, including sustainable water management, sustainable waste management, green finance, and cooperation between China and Hungary in these fields.
