The Lancang-Mekong Environmental Cooperation Working Level Online Meeting took place via video link on Sept. 14, 2021. Representatives from Lancang-Mekong countries participated in the meeting and discussed comprehensive arrangements for Lancang-Mekong environmental cooperation in 2021.

During the meeting, a representative of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) of China, said that in recent years, the Lancang-Mekong countries have strengthened cooperation through high-level policy dialogues and capacity building initiatives, and have made concrete progress in promoting regional sustainable development.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. The representative hoped that countries in the region will continue to promote green and low-carbon development in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin, which will have shared benefits for everyone involved.

The representative of the Lancang-Mekong Environmental Cooperation Center introduced the latest developments and plans for implementing the Lancang-Mekong Green Envoy Program, facilitating research on sustainable energy and low-carbon development, and constructing the Lancang-Mekong Knowledge Hub for Low-Carbon, Green, and Sustainable Infrastructure.

Participants agreed that the Lancang-Mekong countries have rallied around shared goals for promoting sustainable energy development. In the future, the focus of the cooperation should be on capacity building and establishing a regional cooperation network targeting sustainable energy development.

Meanwhile, all the participants recognized the significance of building the Lancang-Mekong Knowledge Hub for Low-Carbon, Green, and Sustainable Infrastructure, and look forward to contributing to the development of the platform.

The conference was co-hosted by the Lancang-Mekong Environmental Cooperation Center and the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the MEE of China.
