Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the migrant crisis currently developing at the European Union (EU)-Belarus border with Germany's outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel in a telephone call Wednesday.

The two leaders discussed at length the refugee crisis on the Belarusian border with EU countries and expressed concern over its humanitarian consequences, the Kremlin said.

Putin proposed to establish a dialogue between representatives of the EU member states and Minsk to address current problems.

Putin and Merkel agreed to continue discussing this topic, it added.
