A biennial car and motorcycle fair opened on Thursday in Belgrade after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a glimpse of new models of electric and ecologically advanced vehicles.

The 7th edition of Belgrade's car and motorcycle fair was opened by the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic who highlighted Serbia's ambition to attract manufacturers of electric cars to open factories in Serbia.

"I believe that we will succeed in convincing some of the global players to accept our hospitality and open their factories in our country," Vucic said.

He said the fair "is the first manifestation of its kind in Europe, after a two-year hiatus." Most of the premiers at this fair are purely electric models or hybrids.

The previous car show took place in March 2018, while the edition in 2020 was canceled.

Visitors to the fair can see around 140 models from 30 brands, of which 48 are new ones -- and 25 premiers are entirely electric cars.

Some of the hot electric models here include Audi e-tron GT, BMW iX, Citroen Ami, Ford Mustang Mach-e, Mercedes-Benz EQB and EQS, Porsche Taycan GTS, and many others. Among the exhibitors, MG, the Chinese-British company, presents its models ZS 1.0, ZS EV, 5, and eHS.

The fair will last till May 15.
