A powerful earthquake rocked Indonesia's western province of East Java on Tuesday, but did not cause damages or casualties, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency reported.

The agency had first released the quake with a magnitude of 6.2 and has now revised it to 6.0 magnitude, head of quake and tsunami mitigation division of the agency Daryono said.

"The location of the quake's epicenter is far away, and its strength is relatively weak. People do not need to worry about the impacts of the quake," he told Xinhua over the phone.

The agency did not issue a tsunami warning as the tremors did not potentially trigger giant waves, according to Daryono.

Two aftershocks with magnitudes of four and three followed the main shock, said Daryono.

The earthquake happened at 13:07 Jakarta time (0607 GMT) with the epicenter situated 284 km southwest of Jember Regency and a depth of 10 km under the seabed, the agency said.

The jolts of the quake were also felt in nearby provinces of Bali, Yogyakarta, Central Java and West Nusa Tenggara, it said.

The tremors were felt weak by the residents in East Java province and did not cause damages or casualties, Haris Supardi, head of the operational unit of the provincial search and rescue office said.
