Forum promotes China-Malaysia youth exchanges

The inaugural China-Malaysia Youth Exchange Forum, held on Jan. 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, brought together more than 50 guests and representatives from academia, businesses and youth organizations. The event aimed to highlight cultural communication between the young people from both nations in the new era.

Wang Rui, general secretary of the Tsinghua University Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, addressed the forum via video. He highlighted Malaysia's pivotal role in China's Belt and Road Initiative and emphasized that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, providing an opportune moment for friendly youth exchanges. Wang expressed the hope that Tsinghua University would deepen collaboration with its Malaysian counterparts in various fields to contribute to education and cultural exchanges.

Alvin Yap, president of the Malaysian Young Graduates Association (GRADUAN Malaysia), warmly welcomed Tsinghua University's "Z-est" team to Malaysia. He underscored the growing role of youth in societal development in the new era and stressed the significance of youth cooperation for strengthening bilateral relations.

Nahrizul Adib Kadri, assistant professor of biomedical engineering from the University of Malaya, expressed hope that youth exchanges between China and Malaysia would inject renewed vigor into the scientific and technological collaboration of both nations. He also expressed optimism about Chinese-Malaysian youth contributing to a new chapter in bilateral friendship.

Ravenna Chen, general manager of TusStar Malaysia, an innovation and entrepreneurship platform, encouraged young people to harness the power of innovation to fostering friendly exchanges, and emphasized the value of the transformative potential of technology in strengthening the bonds between China and Malaysia.

During a roundtable discussion, students and youth representatives explored the role of youth in international communication and articulated their expectations of leveraging new media to deepen ties.

The closing ceremony featured the release of a youth initiative calling on Generation Z from both countries to effectively utilize media to contribute to the enduring bilateral friendship.

The forum was co-organized by Tsinghua University, TusStar Malaysia and the University of Malaya.
