Global museum cooperation vital for cultural exchange, officials say

Officials and diplomats gathered in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin on Wednesday for the fourth dialogue of the China-Europe-America Museums Cooperation Initiative, where they discussed the role of museums and the importance of global collaboration in the sector.

The Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under China International Communications Group (CICG), the China-Europe-America Global Initiative, and the Tianjin Museum hosted the dialogue.

In his opening speech, Yu Yunquan, vice president of CICG and president of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, emphasized the significant role of museums as cradles of human creativity, platforms for education, and spaces for showcasing collections and the diversity of human civilization.

Yu pledged that CICG will continue to leverage its strength in international cultural and people-to-people exchange, further utilizing the China-Europe-America Museums Cooperation Initiative to collaborate with the global museum community on more international communication projects. He believes this will inject new momentum into promoting mutual learning among different civilizations and provide new sources of inspiration and creativity.

Jordanian Ambassador to China Hussam Al Husseini, stressed the vital role of museums in connecting human civilizations, presenting historical landscapes, and conveying the pulse of the future. He called for better preservation and presentation of cultural legacies through museums, noting that they can facilitate better understanding and appreciation of different cultures even across vast distances.

Greek Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni underscored the crucial role of museums in promoting intercultural exchange, which is key to achieving cultural diversity and social prosperity. She called for continuous dialogue among Chinese, European, and American museums to adapt to new environments and meet the diverse needs of their audiences.

The dialogue continued on Thursday, involving discussions on the role of museums in promoting creativity and education and connecting civilizations, as well as the future of museums and public libraries.
