A Hezbollah member was killed and another wounded in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon on Thursday, according to official and military sources in Lebanon.

Lebanese military sources told Xinhua that Israeli drones and warplanes carried out 11 raids on nine villages and towns in the western and central sectors of the border area in southern Lebanon during the early hours of Thursday.

Israeli artillery also shelled seven villages and towns in the eastern and central sectors of the border area with about 25 shells.

The sources noted an Israeli airstrike on a house in the village of Kafra in the central sector resulted in the death of a Hezbollah member and injuries to another.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets fired by Hezbollah in support of Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel retaliated with heavy artillery fire toward southeastern Lebanon.
