The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it had killed Hussam Shahwan, identified as the head of Hamas' Internal Security in southern Gaza, in an overnight drone strike on a humanitarian zone.

According to a military statement, the strike targeted Shahwan while he was in a humanitarian zone in Khan Younis, where displaced Palestinians have sought shelter.

Later on Thursday, a rocket was fired from the southern Gaza Strip toward Israeli communities near the enclave, the military said, noting the rocket was intercepted, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
