The 13th Greece Wushu Championship was recently held in Athens by the Greece Wushu Association to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Greece.

Wushu, known as Chinese martial arts and popularly as kung fu, is a number of fighting styles that have developed over the centuries in China.

As a part of cultural exchange activities celebrating the occasion, the championship attracted 360 competitors from about a hundred Wushu training schools, and the youngest competitor is only seven years old.

Theodoros Pangalos, Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, and Du Qiwen, Chinese ambassador to Greece, were invited to watch the competition.

Du said he hopes Wushu can become the tie of friendly exchanges for the Chinese and Greek people.
