The Ambassador of Greece in China, Mr. Theodore Georgakelos, paid a visit to the Centre of Byzantine Studies at Nankai University. 

The Ambassador of Greece in China, Mr. Theodore Georgakelos, paid a visit to the Centre of Byzantine Studies, at Nankai University, and had meetings with the Vice Rector, Mr. Zhang Shiqi, the Vice Director of the Office of International Academic Exchanges, Mr. Runhui Lin, the Director of the Centre of Byzantine Studies, Mr. Chen Zhi Qiang, and with Professors and students of the Centre.

In his speech, the Ambassador referred to the relations of Greece and China, in the framework of the 40-years anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and responded to a wide range of questions related to politics and trade, cultural relations, Greek jewelry and mode. Besides, on the occasion of the visit, Mr. Georgakelos offered books to the library of the Centre.

The Vice Rector of the Centre of Byzantine Studies thanked the Ambassador for the support provided by the Embassy of Greece, with students’ scholarships and with books. Issues related to the operation of the Centre and to the progress of the students have also been discussed.

Established in 1919, Nankai University is one of the best universities in China and is often visited by Chinese leaders. The Director of the Centre of Byzantine Studies, Mr. Chen Zhi Qiang, is the most renowned researcher of Byzantine History in China.
