China's chartered plane with quake-relief worth 2 million U.S. dollars is expected to arrive in Chile's capital, Santiago, early Saturday(Beijing time).

The plane took off at 12:10 a.m. from Nanjing Lukou International Airport and would arrive in Santiago at 1:30 p.m. on March 5 local time, said a Nanjing Lukou International Airport official.

"The plane is carrying 700 tents, 10,000 blankets, 100 portable generators and two water purifiers, altogether 96 tonnes," he said.

The aid, transported by Air China, was sent from Beijing Capital International Airport and transferred at Nanjing and Los Angeles before reaching Chile.

It took only 10 minutes to pass customs at Lukou International Airport, he said.

The Chinese government donated 1 million U.S. dollars and the Red Cross Society of China 100,000 U.S. dollars in financial relief aid.

The 8.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Chile on Feb. 27, claiming 802 lives as of Wednesday.
