Arab League (AL) Secretary General, Amr Moussa and Jean Ping, the chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, called on Saturday the Arab and African countries to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of Haiti quake.

In a statement issued by AL, Moussa and Jean Ping made the call after their meeting in the AL headquarters in Cairo, asking the Arabs and Africans to make needed contributions so as to help quake victims.

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on Jan. 12, causing thousands of deaths and injuries and extensive destruction, while many people are left without shelters and are in need of food and medicines.

The latest UN and Red Cross estimate is that 100,000 died and 3 million were made homeless by the quake.
