The Government of Sierra Leone has announced the donation of 100,000 U.S. dollars for the victims of the Haiti Earthquake.

Making the donation through the Executive Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Sierra Leone (ERSG) Micheal Schulenberg on Tuesday, President Ernest Bai Koroma expressed his heartfelt condolences to the people of Haiti, particularly the families whose people perished in the disaster.

President Koroma also extended special condolences and sympathy to the United Nations whose peacekeepers in Haiti were also affected in the strong earthquake.

He paid special tribute to the UN for the role they played in bringing peace to Sierra Leone.

He stressed "as a government, they must join the world family in showing support and solidarity by making their contribution to the earthquake fund raising exercise to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti".

For his part, Schulenberg said he was touched by the president's gesture, assuring him that he would communicate the gesture to the UN secretary General.
