The international society on Tuesday provided various kinds of humanitarian aid to Haiti, which was devastated by a massive earthquake on Jan. 12.

The Brazilian and Italian Navy announced Tuesday they would carry out a joint humanitarian operation in Haiti.

According to the Navy, Italian aircraft carrier Cavour will take 75

Brazilian citizens, among whom there were 25 military and health professionals, and two Brazilian Navy helicopters to Haiti in order to support 900 Italian military officials who will work for the reconstruction of the Caribbean country.

The aircraft carrier, which is equipped with a 35-bed hospital, would leave Brazil on Thursday and is expected to reach Haiti by Feb. 1, almost three weeks after the earthquake.

The Italian team includes engineers who will take part in infrastructure works, such as the reconstruction of Haitian roads.

Brazil's institutional security minister, General Jorge Felix, said at a press conference at Brazil's military base in Port-au-Prince that Brazil had sent two ships from Rio de Janeiro, and another port had begun shipping field hospitals.

He also said that this week an Italian ship had left the docks to travel to Brazil. After a two-day stay in Brazil, it would pick up doctors and continue on to Haiti.

The Nicaraguan Red Cross (CRN) has collected 87,000 U.S. dollars to aid the Haitian victims, CRN President Clemente Balmaceda said on Tuesday.

He said that didn't include the money collected by phone companies through text messages. The money collected by these companies could reach more than 14,000 dollars.

The CRN campaign to aid the victims in Haiti began on Jan. 20 and has included parties in different night clubs, concerts and money collection in the streets.
