Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao put forward a four-point proposal Monday on boosting China-Ukraine relations.

Hu's proposal, made during talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Viktor Yanukovich, covers political trust, economic cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and coordination in the international arena.

The two sides should enhance political trust and support each other so as to consolidate the political foundation of the China-Ukraine strategic partnership, Hu said.

He said both sides should promote substantial cooperation in a comprehensive and practical manner, saying they also should deepen cooperation in trade, investment, high technology, mineral resources, energy and agriculture.H Regarding people-to-people and cultural exchanges, Hu said the Chinese side invites 200 children from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster area for a summer holiday in China next year.

As to enhancing coordination in the international arena, Hu said China supports a bigger role of Ukraine in international and regional political affairs, and is willing to deepen coordination at the UN and other international organizations, so as to boost peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large.

Agreeing with Hu's proposal, Yanukovich said China is a major cooperation partner of Ukraine in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ukraine and China trust and understand each other, and cooperate in a comprehensive manner, said Yanukovich, who hosted a grand welcome ceremony in honor of the Chinese president prior to the talks.

The Ukrainian president also stressed the great potential of economic cooperation between his country and China, saying Ukraine is willing to enhance cooperation with China in a variety of fields like infrastructure construction, finance, aviation, agriculture, science and technology, energy and transportation.

Ukraine would like to work with the Chinese side to lift bilateral cooperation to a higher level and advance the bilateral strategic partnership continuously, he added.

Hu arrived in Simferopol for a visit to Ukraine Saturday morning. He is the first Chinese head of state who visited Ukraine in the past decade.
