6.7-magnitude quake hits eastern Honshu, Japan

An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale hit Japan's eastern Honshu at 4:16 p.m. Beijing Time Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 36.9 degrees north latitude and 140.8 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 30 kilometers, the center said.

The epicenter was previously considered to be near east coast of Honshu.
