6.5 magnitude quake hits off coast of Honshu

The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit off the east coast of Honshu of Japan at 3:57 am Beijing Time Thursday.

The temblor occurred with a depth of about 20 kilometers. The epicenter was 39.5 degrees north latitude and 143.8 degrees east longitude, the center said.

No tsunami warning has so far been issued.

A 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific coastal areas of northeastern and eastern Japan on March 11and triggered enormous tsunami.

The Japanese National Police Agency said on Monday that the March 11 earthquake and tsunami have left 13,116 people dead and 14,377 others unaccounted for in Japan by 10:00 a.m. local time (0100 GMT).
