Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) Sunday failed to reach an agreement on an interim government which was due to be unveiled on the same day, head of the NTC executive board Mahmoud Jibril told a press conference.

The NTC could not solve their differences over a few positions in the transitional government at the end of the negotiations, Jibril said in the east city of Benghazi, cradle of the protests that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi.

He said that the NTC, which now rules the North African country, would carry on with negotiations and announce the establishment of the government as early as possible.

Jibril said on Sept. 11 in the Libyan capital of Tripoli that an interim government would be announced in one week or ten days later, which would include representatives from different regions of Libya, including areas that are still under the control of Gaddafi supporters.

He added all military units which had been fighting forces loyal Gaddafi would be brought under the umbrella of the upcoming government.
