Thousands Tunisians protest against interim government

Thousands of Tunisians took to the streets of Tunisian capital Tunis on Tuesday to protest against the new-born interim government, announced only one day before, demanding the ruling RCD party to give up power.

Crowds of people, chanting slogans "Out RCD" and "Freedom to Tunisians", were pouring into streets of the capital center from different directions, while the security forces fired incendiary bombs, smoke grenade and tear gas to disperse the demonstration.

Sporadic clashes erupted between the demonstrators and the security forces who were trying to keep the angry crowd away from the Habib Bourguiba Avenue, a street in front of the headquarters of the interior ministry, which were guarded by armored cars, tanks and full-armed troops.

Protesters vowed not to give up efforts if the country's power system stay the same, saying there will be no peace under the current rule.

Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi Monday unveiled the lists of the interim government, with foreign, interior, and defense ministers remain on their posts and several opposition figures to enter the government.

Abdesselam Jerad, secretary general of the Tunisian General Labor Union that got three posts in the interim government, announced they would not participate in the new-born cabinet, saying it does not represent the will of the Tunisian people.
