China, Cambodia Sign Series of Cooperation Accords

China and Cambodia have signed a series of agreements on bilateral cooperation in trade, science and technology, culture, cross-border crime prevention, and other fields, according to a joint communique by the two countries published Saturday.

The agreements were signed during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Cambodia from Friday to Saturday.

The documents included two agreements on the countries' cooperation to do with economy, technology, and combating transnational crime.

Memoranda of understanding were signed by the two countries' health ministries and for the construction of the Greater Mekong Sub-region Information Superhighway Network Cambodian Section.

The two sides also signed an agreement on a second-phase project of the joint protection of the Angkor Temples of Cambodia.

Other agreements included China making a commitment to provide 30 fire trucks and a mobile container scanning system, as well as sending a team to Cambodia to help survey, and plan for a project involving the establishment of a national botanical garden.

China also agreed to provide Cambodia with preferential buyer's credit and concessional loans, worth US$200 million, for Cambodia's telecom projects.

Wen arrived here Friday for his official visit, the last leg of his Asia-Pacific tour which has also taken him to Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.

During his visit, Wen held talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen, called on His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, and met with Senate President Chea Sim and National Assembly President Heng Samrin.
