"Alive and Ticking"

Director: Andi Rogenhagen

Year: 2011

Country: Germany

It is an anarchistic and warm-hearted family comedy about love, tolerance, and perhaps the strangest illness in the world - the Tourette's syndrome. Eva is seventeen and has Tourette, but Tourette does not have her. Encounters with the outside world are exceedingly stressful for Eva and lead to all the worse tics. So Eva avoids contact with strangers and prefers being by herself. At home her mother's hysterical quests for a cure can become an annoyance. Especially since Eva and her shy father, who loves her just the way she is, have long since given up feigning interest. But whenever Eva feels the walls closing in, she seeks refuge with her grandma. When Eva runs into her father one day on a bench in the forest, he confesses that he has lost his job and has been writing applications from that spot ever since. Then, how will a family without finance resource finally go on? -- Synopsis courtesy of Shanghai International Film Festival
