"These Mongolian people's faces that I've painted over seven years exemplify the Mongolian spirit–the reverence of nature and the unity of heaven and man," said Li Bo, a well-known Inner Mongolian oil painter.

"Mongolian faces"

In 2011, this Han Chinese, Inner Mongolianborn artist started to paint the series of "Mongolian Faces," which consists of oil portraits depicting the facesof ordinary people living in the Yuan Dynasty through to the present.

Recently some of these "faces" made their debut at an international promotional event for China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Hosted in Beijing, the showdisplays images of the locals of the Autonomous Region in a way which serves to complement an artistic world view.

"Through these works, I tried to present the faces of Mongolian people, including their expressions of joy, anger, sorrow and happiness, and even their state of life," said Li.

Their range as wide as they are, each of Li's paintings features a different costume, expression and emotion. A viewer is able to immediatelyidentify which Mongolian tribe he or she belongs to based on the accessories featured in a painting.
